Life was normal as normal could be,
Wake up, dress up and seldom look up for busy were we.
Long unwinding traffic to navigate,
With dreams of becoming next Mr. Gates.
Start-up ideas flooding our heads,
With finances however that could barely get us a bed.
Statistics, numbers, graphs and bars
And a boss you wish you could push out of a running car
With that went another week full of presentations, seminars and talks,
Came Friday and it was Whiskey on the rocks.
Where was the time? Amidst all the grime?
To breathe, pause and look
At your start-up ideas now a closed book!
Just when you lost all hope,
could no longer cope.
Came a bigger blow.
On a sunny afternoon hot and humid,
A virus named not so fancy, but something called COVID.
But lo and behold!
This was no ordinary next door cough and cold.
Sparing none, it took lives and spread like wild fire,
Catapulting stocks, shares, businesses, banks and more,
Sending countries into situations very dire.
WAR with VIRUS it was now,
We had to win, but no one knew how!
With that came an announcement – Do not step out
Always cover your nose and mouth.
Sneeze in public and you shall be doomed,
Such was the fear that at large loomed.
Confined within the four walls of your house.
With a laptop and mouse,
After few important meetings and some urgent calls,
Realization struck, there was so much to life outside those malls.
That’s when, dusty guitar finally got his makeover,
For the last time you played, was after your bad hangover.
A simple ‘Hi’ to a friend long lost,
Turned into a conversation,
You didn’t want to stop at any cost.
Little Ms. Cherry tomato in your kitchen garden,
Made you smile looking up at the heaven.
Milo’s tail didn’t stop wagging,
it was after long, his human friend he was seeing.
His happiness had no bounds,
As he butted his way out, for his usual rounds.
And now you truly saw, all that you had been missing.
While you incessantly chased deadlines and a promotion long pending.
It all made sense, the Virus, outbreak and the quarantine,
Don’t you see? Your start up idea just got all the time,
And mother Earth to refresh and come back fine.
One day, when you finally come out of your houses next,
Appreciate you will, everything around you to the best.
Don’t give up and keep working on your ideas though,
You might just be the next Mr. Gates,
No seriously! who knows? 🙂
Superb, Nandita… So funny! and true too, of course
