Remember those conversations?

about crushes and pranks on teachers?

the times we laughed and shared several moments…

during a class of muscle aching physical education,

and sighed – boy that sir was one hell of a tyrant!

Unflinchingly we doodled rubbish on the black board,

and ran for our lives,

when Madame Headmistress strode across the road.

Hurriedly we settled at our table,

with yesterday’s homework incomplete,

Tell me, would otherwise fun be possible?

Unless the class was punished on repeat?

History, English, Chemistry, Mathematics,

and teachers with their trademark tricks,

desperate to get us into gear,

and instill exam fear,

would yell “answer all the questions or you shall fail,

then don’t come back to us,

you monkey with a big tail!!”

Little did they know,

final exams were never to test aptitude,

but loyalty of a friend,

who promised a sneak peek,

into her answer sheet,

in return of a favor,

perhaps some sweetmeat?

Of all things however,

Summer holidays were the best,

Ice Popsicle, games, screaming, howling,

No teacher, no homework,

And only weeks and weeks of rest.

Sure, a big pause to our happiness,

was result day – always off track.

With guaranteed glare from your dad,

Demanding an explanation, for that not so great score,

which was pretty sad.

But who even cared for such minor setbacks?

when there was a new class, new crush and teachers waiting to be troubled,

brand new set of conversations,

And a heart in which enthusiasm bubbled.
